The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentive Plan units, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits. 

Austin Base Salary Range: 113,000 - 145,000 USD per year

Your job.

As a BI Performance Optimization Architect at Indeed, your role is to be an expert at identifying efficiencies in the transformation of Indeed's data. We expect you to aid our data development team in creating highly-optimized data assets. You will analyze data pipelines to help facilitate enhancements to existing and new code that is leveraged in the creation of dashboards, reports, visualizations and algorithms to solve interesting business problems for users across the enterprise. If you: are a sharp coder; can identify problems in complex data; know the difference between ETL and ELT; like to think of clever ways to solve tricky data problems; and you love working with people, this is a great opportunity for you.


Responsibilities 

  • Provide technical recommendations for data pipeline performance measurement and analysis, scalable architecture and profiling/troubleshooting techniques

  • Help define SLOs for individual BI solutions

  • Influence and apply latest alerting and data quality methods in collaboration with development and infrastructure teams to enable quicker resolution of performance issues

  • Proposing changes to and reviewing dimensional data models in support of BI needs

  • Understanding and analyzing ETL pipelines that use SQL, Python, Hive, and Spark data models

  • Understanding business stakeholders’ objectives, the metrics that are most important to them, and how they measure their performance

  • Tuning end to end data pipelines and publishing best practices

  • Analyzing performance characteristics, creating optimization proposals and partnering with the team to implement

  • Understanding business requirements and technical requirements 

  • Participating in code reviews and responsible for optimization related signoff

  • Finding and understanding the correct data sources for a given requirement

  • Learning from, and sharing knowledge and skills with your teammates to grow BI’s total impact to the organization

About you.

Requirements 

  • 5+ Years of Dimensional Data Warehousing and ‘Big Data’ Experience

  • 5+ Years of SQL. Must have the ability to write, profile and performance tune complex, highly-optimized queries across large volumes of data

  • 3+ years of solid Python programming skills to create pipelines to cleanse and manipulate data

  • Solid understanding of On Prem to Cloud evolution as well as hands on experience working with public cloud

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfort presenting to everyone from entry-level employees to senior vice presidents

  • Expert knowledge of ETL and data warehouse concepts and processes, such as CDC, MDM, etc

  • Curiosity and passion about data, visualization and solving problems

  • Creativity to determine the best solution for a real-world problems 

  • Willingness to question the validity, accuracy of data and assumptions

  • Enjoyment from collaborating with others in team environment

  • Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Drive and self-reliance

  • Master’s Degree (or a B.S. degree with relevant industry experience) in math, statistics, computer science, or equivalent technical field


What we'd love to see (but isn’t required):

  • Programming experience with Java

  • Experience with reporting, descriptive statistics, probability, and cleaning big datasets is a big plus
