The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentive Plan units, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits. 

Austin Base Salary Range: 

Software Engineer I: 90,000 - 112,000 USD per year
Software Engineer II: 116,000 - 142,000 USD per year
Senior Software Engineer: 116,000 - 142,000 USD per year
Staff Software Engineer: 138,000 - 174,000 USD per year
Principal Software Engineer: 172,000 - 218,000 USD per year
Technical Fellow: 199,000 - 261,000 USD per year

We are a rapidly growing business, and we’re growing our Engineering organization to meet that growth.  We experiment at a rapid pace and make strategic investments in scale where and when we need to. We strike the right balance between rapid development to vet new ideas and maintaining high engineering standards for our core technology.  We are an agile organization, with an ever-evolving process that maintains a “just enough” process level; as part of that agility, we live by a principle we call “bias for done” - we would rather have less in process in order to get projects completed sooner, than spread ourselves thin in order to make progress on many projects.  Finally, our teams have autonomy to solve their respective business and technical challenges, encouraged to collaborate with other teams, both within and outside our organization.


  • You will build & lead 3-10 diverse software engineering teams distributed across two sites globally

  • You will grow this team significantly, adjusting team structure and mission as needed

  • You will have broad ownership of critical portions of the Indeed Hire product

  • You will guide the engineering processes and strategies to deliver high quality Hire products reliably and iteratively

  • You will drive collaboration with peers in other functions, notably Product, Data Science, and QA

  • You will have to discover, develop, and coach existing & future leaders at Indeed

  • You will be planning and implementing a recruiting strategy for your teams aligning with product & delivery goals

About you.

  • Track record in managing software engineering teams in consumer Web or SaaS products

  • A diverse, dynamic & innovative leader who enjoys supporting & developing people’s careers

  • Experience leading a geographically distributed software engineering organization comprising multiple teams

  • The ability to balance short term results with long term sustainability

  • Experience conceiving and leading organizational change

  • An evidence-based approach to making decisions, but also the willingness to take the occasional leap of faith

  • A strong & collaborative leader with proven ability to deliver products at scale
