The team.

We are a rapidly-growing, fast-moving, highly-capable UX team building the most popular job site on the planet. Our designers work in Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Tokyo and Hyderabad, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering to deliver simple solutions to the real-world problems that job seekers and employers face hiring and getting hired. Most importantly, our team is expected to deliver results, and be able to demonstrate the impact our changes have on our business.

Your job.

The Director of Design Operations will be responsible for defining processes and standards across the design organization. The goals are to maximize efficiency, raise skill level, increase employee engagement, and maximize ROI on design spend.


Activities will focus on the following areas:


Design Culture

  • Define recruiting and hiring practices

    • Job descriptions

    • Candidate experience

    • Compensation and competiveness of offers

  • Employee development

    • Rubric

    • Performance evaluation

    • Development planning

  • Steward Indeed Design’s “employer brand” to attract high-end candidates


Craft

  • Education across all design disciplines

  • Documenting and evangelizing best practices

  • Archiving institutional knowledge in actionable form (research library, case studies)

  • Events to stimulate sharing of best practices


Operational Excellence

  • Quarterly planning

  • Budgeting & forecasts

  • Measuring design ROI

  • Workforce augmentation and capacity planning

  • Develop and manage external talent network


Architecture

  • Methods for mapping end-to-end product architecture

  • Foundational artifacts defining overall system

  • Commonalities across all design areas

  • Process and analysis to ensure coherence across silos

  • Integration of UX analytics, qualitative research, and both emergent and strategic information architecture

  • Will involve building a team of analysts, designers and toolsmiths

About you.

Requirements:

  • 15+ years in a senior design position

  • 10+ years running design organization of greater than 10 people

  • Enterprise and entrepreneurial management experience

  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of the design process

  • Outstanding written and verbal skills

  • Ability to map design activities to business constraints and objectives

  • Effective evangelist for UX at senior leadership level
