Your job.

As a Product Director you will focus on a large piece of Indeed’s business; Indeed’s Employers (clients).  You will work closely with marketing, to help create and manage a comprehensive lifecycle management program for our clients.  A successful customer lifecycle program will deliver consistent and helpful communication to our clients across all products and forms of communication - periodically, and as needed.  

The goal is to leverage this program to help our clients become more informed, efficient and successful.   Your piece of the puzzle is developing the methods to identify and categorize clients, then collaborating with marketing on proper communication for each client type, and finally testing the effectiveness of our program, and tweaking things.  Ultimately we want our clients to have a positive and seamless experience that translates into better and quicker hires, and higher engagement and retention rates.

You will work cross-product and partner with Sales, Client Services and Marketing to spot opportunities for better customer experiences and then act on those opportunities in a scalable and sustainable manner.

Some questions for which you will find answers and implement solutions: How do we use data to categorize a client and determine the best possible product for them? How do we know when their needs change? How do we communicate with them efficiently, and optimize the frequency, quality and mode of communication?  How do we maximize both Indeed’s and our clients’ long term success.

Success will depend on various metrics, that you will develop.  Using these metrics you will iterate, make adjustments, and repeat.  You will build a team that helps you do this.

About you.

As a Product Director at Indeed, you will own one or more products of strategic importance to the business and manage multiple Product Managers who extend your vision and influence. You will be responsible for growing the Product Management team through great hiring and mentoring as you expand Indeed’s product and technical capabilities. You and your team, not the CEO, will decide how to grow your products to further the company goals of helping people find jobs and growing revenue.

Product Managers at Indeed, including Directors and above, are analytical, creative, and collaborative. We obsess over data and drive for simplicity. You will guide the team by exemplifying these core values.

Product Managers have the responsibility to deliver results, but no authority over peers in Engineering and Design. A successful Product Manager leads by developing the trust and respect of teammates. You will foster collaboration across Indeed offices around the world.  You, and your peers, will be custodians of the Indeed culture of data and collaboration. As Product Director, you will develop programs and tools that carry the Indeed culture forward as you help Indeed grow at a phenomenal pace

You will work closely with the development and design team on a daily basis. You will sit next to developers and designers, define requirements and analyze A/B tests with their input. You will do data analysis, whether it’s doing queries in MySQL, searching through logs, or using the plethora of in-house tools for analyzing data (see: Most importantly, you will guide other Product Managers to do these tasks effectively so you can magnify your impact many fold.

You will create hypotheses for creating a new product or improving a product, test them, and learn from the results (see: Our product development philosophy is similar to the Lean Startup philosophy. You will create Minimal Viable Products (MVPs), prototypes of new products, simple tests to validate ideas and iterate. You will NOT be an armchair Product Manager writing large PRDs and handing them off to the development team. Most Product Managers at Indeed don’t even know what a PRD is.

  • BA/BS, technical or business. MBA a plus.

  • Extensive consumer mobile or internet software product management experience.

  • Experience must include Customer Lifecycle Management

  • Understanding of web development technology.

  • Outstanding data analysis skills.

  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Is able to make data-driven business decisions.

  • Previous entrepreneurial / start-up experience a plus.
