The team.We are a rapidly-growing, fast-moving, highly-capable UX team building the most popular job site on the planet. Our designers work in Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Tokyo and Hyderabad, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering to deliver simple solutions to the real-world problems that job seekers and employers face hiring and getting hired. Most importantly, our team is expected to deliver results, and be able to demonstrate the impact our changes have on our business.
The AI Ethics team at Indeed builds systems and processes that advance responsible AI to equitably benefit all job seekers and employers. Our team works on new challenges that have the potential to reshape our business: we define and build the tools that make finding and hiring for jobs measurably fair, accountable, and transparent. This multi-disciplinary team is a mix of research and execution that drives measurable value; we work with the entire organization to define solutions. As the experts in AI ethics, we are responsible for uncovering new opportunities across Indeed’s entire operation and collaborating with teams to validate transformative ideas. Our objective is to be the gold standard in practical AI ethics and demonstrable algorithmic fairness.
We’re a fast-growing group including capabilities. AI Ethics efforts are high-visibility and rapidly evolving as we define the practice for our business while incorporating current research in the domain.
Work with data science and product teams to co-create a best practice approach to embedding responsible AI into the way we design and build analytics and data products
Work closely with cross-functional partners to identify and prioritize gaps in our understanding and execution of ethical data practices; design research that uniquely contributes to addressing these gaps
Design and execute end-to-end primary research to evaluate our internal tools and processes
Translate complex, ambiguous questions into concrete analysis and action
Communicate findings to diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders with differing perspectives and needs
PhD or MS in social sciences (Sociology; Economics; Psychology; Science, Technology, and Society) or equivalent practical experience in related fields
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively influence and communicate across all levels of management
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment
Comfort working within ambiguous problem areas and collaborating effectively to clarify objectives, hypotheses, and scope
Experience with survey and questionnaire design, experimental design, machine learning, statistical analyses of survey or behavioral data
10+ years conducting user research for software/web-based products with stories to share
Flexible approach to research: Our goal is to provide product team value. If an existing research method doesn’t do that, we invent our own research method
Passion for diversity and inclusion in hiring
Expertise within AI ethics, including fairness, accountability, transparency, explainability, and privacy-enhancing technology
Experience executing mixed-methods research on building out process or best practices
Experience leading research related to diversity and inclusion
Experience with SQL, Python / R, and large datasets
Understanding of common privacy industry standards/ regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), especially as it relates to building technology products
