We are a rapidly-growing, fast-moving, highly-capable UX team building the most popular job site on the planet. Our designers work in Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Tokyo and Hyderabad, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering to deliver simple solutions to the real-world problems that job seekers and employers face hiring and getting hired. Most importantly, our team is expected to deliver results, and be able to demonstrate the impact our changes have on our business.
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentives, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits.

We are looking for a researcher who can help Indeed understand job seekers, including their information needs and task flows so that we can develop products that are easy to use, useful, and efficient.

So what would you be doing?

  • Validate new designs through ad-hoc user feedback sessions with job seekers

  • Plan and carry out interviews and surveys to inform roadmap planning and future product work

  • Relationship building with key customers to gain deeper insights

  • Open-ended “show me how you use it” interviews with job seekers

  • Establish and manage relationships with research related vendors

  • Collaborate with other researchers, product managers, and UX designers to ensure research translates into business impact

  • Proactively initiate research activities which align to the company vision and goals

  • Evangelize and present research findings to product teams, SLT, and general audiences as necessary

  • Employ a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, in the lab, remotely, and in the field

  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into actionable insights and communicate to key stakeholders. Gather and prioritize key questions from the product team to help define, plan, and execute the research

  • Mentor more junior researchers

About you.


  • Bachelor's, MS or Ph.D. in a human behavior related field (Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Social Science, Technical Communication, Statistics, Behavioral or Microeconomics or other related fields)

  • 5+ years conducting user research for software/web-based products with stories to share

  • You are self-driven and take initiative to identify research needs and creatively solve problems

  • You have a track record of discovering actionable insights that have influenced real products

  • You have experience using a wide variety of research methods and have a flexible approach to research. Our goal is to provide product teams value. If an existing research method doesn’t do that, we invent our own research method

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills. Must be able to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to different audiences

  • Ability to independently perform all research-related tasks in the research project lifecycle: Create a test plan, write a screener, recruit users, schedule users, moderate test, create video clip highlights, top-line results, create research findings summary, and effectively present and share results

  • Experience with remote testing tools

  • Established relationships with trusted research vendors a plus
