Our mission.

As the world’s number 1 job site, our mission is to help people get jobs. We need talented, passionate people working together to make this happen. We are looking to grow our teams with people who share our energy and enthusiasm for creating the best experience for job seekers.

The team.

We are Indeed’s open source engineering team. As part of the Open Source Program Office, we help set the program strategy and we build and maintain tools to help achieve our goals. The OSPO’s mission is to inspire every Indeedian to make meaningful contributions to the open source community. We are also responsible for helping Indeedians use open source effectively.

The engineering team is a small, highly talented group of people who strive to produce clean code. We follow a lightweight agile process, which includes writing unit tests and doing some pairing. Our team values include: collaboration, innovation, transparency, and customer success. We encourage a healthy work-life balance, and provide great opportunities for ongoing education and career development, as well as strong benefits. The open source team has embraced remote work from its start, and we are moving toward a “remote-first” culture.

We are looking for people who will add new dimensions to our team.

Your job.

As a software developer on the open source team, you will…

  • Develop and maintain tools and applications in collaboration with teammates

  • Work closely with other teams at Indeed to help them understand and implement best practices related to open source

  • Contribute to open source projects that are built by and/or used at Indeed

  • Advocate for open source, both inside and outside the company

You will build and maintain software. In addition, you will work closely with teams across Indeed to help us spread open source best practices. If you’re interested in public writing or speaking, you will have opportunities to share your work within Indeed, and beyond. This is a unique opportunity for you to apply your open source experience to help Indeedians become better members of the open source community.

Most of our team’s software development work involves tools for internal use. For that work, our default technologies are TypeScript and Node, but we’ll choose the right technologies for each project. There will be daily opportunities to share your knowledge and to learn from others as we embrace continual improvement.

Our outreach work focuses on effective interactions with external communities. We support open source projects that Indeed owns (like k8Dash), as well as contributing to projects on which Indeed depends (like Kubernetes). We consult with teams to help them get the most out of open source, as well as to give back to the community. Since Indeed uses a variety of languages and frameworks, you will have opportunities to learn new systems and to collaborate closely with the folks who maintain them.

About you.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 4+ years of software development experience with modern languages (e.g. Java, TypeScript, Go, etc.), in a work and/or open source setting

  • Significant experience contributing to and/or maintaining a community-supported open source project

  • Demonstrated ability to work productively on a remote/distributed team

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

We get excited about candidates who:

  • Embrace continual improvement, and love to learn and develop new skills

  • Think about why something needs to be built, not just what needs to be built

  • Feel a sense of ownership in every application they work on

  • Demonstrate an ability to manage timelines and deliverables

  • Are comfortable shifting between various computer languages and technologies
