Systems Engineering at Indeed encompasses a variety of technologies that underpin the entire Indeed Production ecosystem. As a Sr. Manager for Systems Engineering, you work with your teams to implement unique solutions that provide a reliable and secure platform that improves operational efficiency. You possess superior communication skills, building data-driven roadmaps that you share with the company, tracking the status of those improvements, generating excitement for what your teams are doing. You are comfortable with a variety of technologies, able to context switch between cloud technologies and kernel updates without batting an eye. You see change as a force to be directed, not blocked or set free.
Lead and grow groups of Systems Engineers and their managers, setting broad tasks through quarterly planning processes
Track progress on quarterly OKRs, reporting regularly to management on progress and blocked items
Communicate with stakeholders on Systems Engineering-related issues, setting expectations and clarifying how SysEng can help
Manage your team to build and track SLAs and SLOs on key technologies, and report to your management and customers if these technologies fail to meet your exacting standards
Evaluate your team’s organizational structure and needs, shifting responsibilities and recruiting to improve your service offerings.
Regularly meet with staff in one-on-one meetings, helping to remove roadblocks while coaching them in career development and training opportunities
5+ years of experience leading multiple technical teams in various geographic locations.
Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Proven record managing complex technical projects using structured methods to communicate and track progress
Broad knowledge on technical topics, specifically around Linux and Open Source software. (You may not be an expert, but your team values your perspective on technical matters.
Experience tracking and reporting on progress for a wide variety of support issues. Familiarity with Jira and/or ServiceNow, preferred
Self-directed and self-motivated, you look for the best work you can do.
Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
Accomplished in hiring. You have built out a process to evaluate the best candidates and get them working
Experience with budgeting processes and build-vs-buy decision making
Competent abilities with a scripting language (bash, python, etc) preferred. You can write something to solve a problem if needed.
