The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentive Plan units, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits. 

Austin Base Salary Range: 85,000 - 106,000 USD per year

Your job.

We are looking for a Tableau Server Administrator in our Austin, Texas office to support our growing Tableau infrastructure, data platform and stakeholder teams.

This role will be responsible for enabling the company to make informed decisions based on data by building and maintaining a stable Tableau Server environment. This role will work closely with all departments to understand each of their business needs and enable them to analyze and make decisions quicker.

Your Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintaining the Tableau Server environment to ensure reliable performance and scalability

  • Server activities such as OS and product patching, change management, performance tuning, standards/best practices, monitoring, metadata Management, cluster/distributed management, cache/history management, scheduling

  • Implement scripts (e.g. Python, Linux shell, and Windows batch) for automation tasks such as system health monitoring, alerting and other functionality as required

  • Provide guidance and expertise for ongoing testing activities to find the optimal hardware / software configuration to match new versions of the application and new demands from our user community

  • Ensuring Tableau Server meets Service-Level Agreements compliance, such as uptime and extract refresh speed

  • Work with users directly to identify and resolve potential Tableau Server issues

  • Support and assist with implementing new data pipeline initiatives Tableau, serving as a source of expertise on source systems, derived tables, data models, and performance considerations

  • Implement and manage structural permission policies as defined by Product and Data Governance stakeholders

  • Collaborate with data infrastructure team, the Tableau product manager, business analysts and content managers to implement and maintain security of the business intelligence environment both in terms of access and data

  • Communicate status regularly with stakeholders and executive sponsors

  • Work with departmental stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and gather business requirements

  • Work with ETL developers to define and build data sets for reporting integration, dashboards, data visualizations, data mining

About you.


  • 2 years back-end Tableau Server administration experience with recent versions of server (e.g. TSM), including Server Configuration and tuning. Experience with Tableau Server deployments on Linux is a plus

  • Windows and Linux system administration skills sufficient to support Tableau Server product

  • Experience on Tableau Server metadata reporting is a plus

  • 1 year Tableau Desktop experience

  • 1-2 years of database experience, preferably MySQL and Postgres, including knowledge of database fundamentals, data modelling

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to learn quickly.

  • Creative approach to problem solving and task automation

  • Must have the ability to develop, own and drive processes; complete complex analysis; successfully partner with other professionals; and have strong project management skills.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong multitasker with ability to achieve results through collaboration with other teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
