The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Long Term Incentives, an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits. 

Tokyo Base Salary Range: 6,010,000 - 7,810,000 JPY per year

Your job.

The International Taxonomy Team Lead is responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and overseeing a team of International Taxonomy Analysts who develop taxonomies and ontologies and apply metadata in order to significantly improve the job search experience for millions of Indeed users. 


As an ideal candidate, you are an excellent cross-cultural communicator keen on developing and supporting your direct reports and the Taxonomy team. You’re comfortable giving and receiving feedback, don’t shy away from tough conversations when the need arises, and revel in celebrating team and individual successes. You have a thorough understanding of Indeed’s internal tools and processes and a desire to improve them to best suit your team and the business.

Responsibilities: 


  • Coordinate and prioritize the team’s tasks and projects based on organizational objectives and initiatives

  • Hold weekly 1-on-1 meetings with all team members

  • Brainstorm and problem solve with Taxonomy Analysts to develop and test taxonomies and ontologies with the aim of improving Indeed search results

  • Evaluate categorized content to identify gaps in coverage, misclassified content, redundant and/or ineffective categorization rules, giving timely feedback to team members

  • Develop internal processes and workflows with an eye toward efficiency and impact

  • Perform the tasks of a Taxonomy Analyst when necessary, including but not limited to researching and developing classification structures, writing and reviewing rules, creating and maintaining crosswalks and mappings, and other core functions.

  • Suggest ways to improve and scale our products, processes, and internal tools

  • Conduct phone and in-person interviews for potential new hires

  • Manage PTO and other HR processes, including employee development

  • Conduct quarterly and annual reviews in conjunction with the Taxonomy Manager


About you.

Qualifications:


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese

  • Substantial experience working and/or living in Japan

  • Passion for supporting and coaching team members to grow in their roles

  • Commitment to effective, direct feedback to promote impactful performance and efficient processes

  • Ability to navigate and resolve interpersonal and team issues with a positive attitude

  • Leadership mindset and desire to continuously improve people and processes

  • Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

  • Comfortable in technical environments and happy to learn new systems as needed

  • Strong background in research and analysis, including the ability to evaluate source authority

  • Ability to context switch between systems-level thinking and attention to minute details

  • Honed time management skills and demonstrated success in handling multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities

  • Ability to balance quick decision-making with attention to quality and accuracy

  • Familiarity with information recall concepts and experience classifying and refining results

  • Proficiency with Google G Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Hangouts, etc.)


Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent work experience

  • Experience developing, implementing, and/or maintaining controlled vocabularies (thesauri, taxonomies, ontologies) in a business environment

  • Experience managing people and processes

  • Experience interviewing and hiring candidates

  • Strong data retrieval and boolean search skills

  • Experience analyzing large datasets

  • Knowledge of SQL or SPARQL
