Your job.

Indeed is looking to hire an exceptional product-focused engineering leader who can operate in a fast-paced environment delivering business results quickly. This person will drive a range of engineering initiatives focused on helping millions of customers make the best possible hires. 

As a Vice President of Engineering, you will lead the SMB Candidates engineering teams. The SMB Candidates business unit is responsible for helping deliver the hire to the tens of thousands of employers that rely on Indeed.  Teams in this business unit deliver employer-facing products to guide employers through the entire hiring process after their job is posted and are innovating this space to make it as fast and efficient as possible for employers.  There are also teams using Indeed’s vast amounts of data to deliver the best applications across all our jobs.  

All business and technical leaders at Indeed, especially Directors and above in product and engineering, are analytical, creative, and collaborative. We obsess over data and drive for simplicity. A successful technical leader will lead through data and insights, obsess about customer outcomes in every decision she/he makes, and lead by developing the trust and respect of teammates.  As one of the most senior Engineering leaders at Indeed, you will shape how we continue to transform the global recruitment industry.

A few examples of what you will drive as part of this critical role: 

  1. Engineering vision and strategy - Be responsible for working across partners and stakeholders in creating a clear, convincing technical strategy 

  2. Technical Execution - Be responsible for scaling and building our products globally across multiple markets - Serving 100’s of Millions of Job Seekers and Millions of Employers

  3. People Management and leadership - Manage highly technical teams through senior leaders (80-100 people globally distributed), inspire leaders to deliver against aggressive OKRs and grow and develop top technical talent.

  4. Ongoing technical reviews - Drive ongoing product and technology reviews in conjunction with the Product Leaders with C-level stakeholders and drive board-level strategic discussions

  5. Organizational planning - Plan organizational growth to enable delivering more value to customers in one of the most strategically important areas in SMB while maintaining high delivery and impact.

About you.

Must-have experience

-15+ years of progressive experience in engineering or related discipline in the technology sector

-10+ years of managing technology teams and growing leaders - managed at least 2 layers of management and team sizes of -at least 100+ people

-Experience working with distributed global teams

-Experience working in multiple products that have been used by 10’s of millions of global users required

-Led teams and organizations through aggressive goals with the ability to hit those goals

Desirable experiences

Experience leading data scientists and machine learning based teams as well as front end product teams

Characteristics that will be a great culture fit as an engineering leader at Indeed

-Able to make data-driven decisions effectively and efficiently

-Able to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives and opportunities

-Communicate well and influence colleagues and executives

-Demonstrate technical leadership and gain respect across other engineering teams at Indeed

-Experience with and/or comfort with dotted-line reporting structures / influencing roles

-Proven ability to drive API first mindset including familiarity with microservices and queues

-Make people around you more effective and productive

-Demonstrate attention to detail

-Be a player-coach + help your leadership meet and exceed all the expectations listed above

-Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Engineering or Computer Science
